About Voices

Our Story

Our progress regarding children’s rights changed dramatically in 1989 when the Convention of the Rights of the Child was ratified. It contains 54 articles explaining the aspects of a child’s life and all the rights they are entitled to. With 196 countries ratifying the document, the CRC is the most widely ratified human rights treaty in history. Rights include but are not limited to health, education, family life, play and recreation, an adequate standard of living, and protection from abuse and harm.

Although the Convention of the Rights of the Child has achieved tremendous progress over the years, there is still work to be done. Over 175 million children are not enrolled in pre-primary education and 152 million are engaged in child labor. In 2019, 1.6 billion children were living in a conflict-affected country.

Founded in 2022 by Julia Funck, our mission at Voices is to educate and inform others about children’s rights issues around the world in order to ensure that every child has access to their inalienable rights. We will write blog posts monthly, which contain explanations of children’s rights issues and ways to help. You can follow us on Instagram @voicesinitiative.
